Overall Objectives and Goal of the Program

The purpose of the USAID/PEPAM Program is to improve sustainable access to water supply and sanitation and promote better hygiene in targeted rural, small town, and peri-urban areas of Senegal, by working in four components.

Within the framework of the implementation of the program of the USAID/PEPAM, and for the targeted villages, the team of the WESWA will play the role of technical relay.  The following activities will be carried out:

 

WESWA is a local NGO based in Ziguinchor that is well known and anchored within the communities it works with and thus works well with the local population, institutions and stakeholders.  WESWA will work with the local stakeholders to ensure appropriate selection and use of technology, sustainable financial systems, maintenance for water and sanitation within all the intervention zones that are identified and selected by the project.  WESWA will work with the local populations, rural committees and local artisans, using social marketing and behavior change techniques, so that they take ownership of managing, maintaining and sustaining appropriate water and sanitation solutions for the locale and community.

 

WESWA is  using  a community participatory  approach which  focus on positively  achieve the results of the USAID / PEPAM program, and using the following five steps:

 

1 : Analysis of the current context;

2 : Review and selection of appropriate technical interventions;

 3 : Development of solutions, and field testing for appropriateness and replicability ;

4 : Implementation and monitoring ;

 5 : Evaluation, documentation, data collection and reporting on indicators.
